the grand mother-of-my-father , a woman I recall of grace and time-explored beauty , is the closest ancestor who conveyed a fundamental observation I am contemplating as the ( ✝ ) Agnes Principle , which reflects on how three events can allow meta-definition : the carving away the unneeded degrees of freedom , obscuring our visions , to allow knowing what is important in our lives.
her version , perhaps reflecting the mid-west , pioneer stoicism poking back at the i of adversity to milk tears for useful crystals of salt - or likely even a mid-European root of sensibility in survival - would go pithily thus:
'three moves are as good as a fire'

if big enough , stretching through enough experiences and thus spanning across memory quasicrystals , three Sorrows that are sufficiently orthogonal can fix our internal lodestar of chirality. we will always know where to go to triangulate , well enough , the consequences of our actions/inactions -- should we care to look. It is a crystalline palace of tears.
that is why 3 Sorrows can be as good as a complete Job of stripping everything - every last bit - down to the essential bones and allowing the rebuilding anew. can be.
